Why Vetiver
-
“Keep your rare bloom. Give me weeds and wildflowers, with deep roots, that break through the toughest soil and survive the harshest conditions – thriving where they shouldn’t – with an unappreciated, tenacious beauty recognized only by those willing to look beyond the unexpected.”
The First Survivors of Alzheimer’s
Vetiver is a grass, and translated the word means “root that is dug up.” In our practice we’ll say, “let’s get to the root of the issue.” The Vetiver plant represents our best selves and, as well, the integrative approach we take to get to the root issue and not mask or address superficially. Vetiver reflects the beauty and magic of the created world; intricately woven together for healing, growth and resilience.
Versatile—From root to grassy tip, look at all that we and vetiver can be and do in our most functioning selves!
Essential Oils—Possesses sedative properties used for grounding, focus, calming, insomnia, fatigue, and difficulty remembering. Enhances lucid dreams with connections to the spiritual.
Together—Planted in rows, vetiver work as a collective to prevent land erosion. Like the plant, we are more effective together. Research confirms the most effective ‘intervention’ for mental greatness is community.
Influence—Cleanses and keeps moisture in the soil, benefitting other plants that grow near it. Likewise, as we grow healthier those around us benefit.
Vetiver System—The Vetiver System was created in India for soil and water conservation, and is planted where the land needs repair due to erosion. The grass is used for the protection of water supply channels and storage dams. Sometimes we also need protection and damage control.
Eau de toilette—Said to be in nearly half of all perfumes, the earthy fragrance is one of the main notes in classic perfumery. We want to be a sweet-smelling aroma to others, inclusively.
Rooted Deeply—The vetiver plant’s unusual gift is that it’s deeply rooted, often growing up to 13 feet! Its roots are massive, deep and fast-growing. Like vetiver, we want roots that go deep. A Judaean prophet once said “(People of faith) are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”
